Professor Lee was appointed an Associate Judge of the District of Columbia Superior Court in 2010 by President Barack Obama. He first joined the court as a Magistrate Judge in November 1998. Since his appointment, Judge Lee has served in Criminal and Civil Divisions of the court as well as in the Family Court. He served as the presiding magistrate judge from 2006 until his nomination. As a member of the Superior Court Task Force for Families and Violence, he assisted in the development of the Teen Court Diversion Program. In 2007, he was appointed to preside over the court's newly instituted Fathering Court.

Before becoming a judge, Professor Lee was a member of the UDC Law faculty, supervising in the Juvenile Justice Clinic and teaching Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Wills & Estates, and Trial Advocacy. The student body named him Professor of the Year in 1995 and 2004. Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Lee worked for the Public Defender Service, as a staff attorney from 1985 to 1990 and as Deputy Trial Chief from 1990 to 1993. During the 1990-91 academic year, Professor Lee was a Visiting Associate Professor of Law serving the Criminal Justice Clinic at the Georgetown University Law Center.

Professor Lee has also been a member of the adjunct faculty at Georgetown and taught in the Harvard Trial Advocacy Program for several years. He has been a consistent contributor to the Criminal Practice Institute, Neglect Practice Institute and many other local bar programs.

Professor Lee teaches Evidence and Wills & Estates.
