Angela Watson, 2L, completed an internship this past summer at the District of Columbia Superior Court. She was chosen to intern in the D.C. court system by the Washington Bar Association’s Judicial Counsel.

Watson worked on many different types of cases at the D.C. Superior Court since her supervisor, Michael Torres, clerks for 3 different judges. Watson worked with Magistrate Judge Howze on criminal arraignments, Magistrate Judge Ringell on traffic and Magistrate Judge Harnett on child support and custody. Watson also had the opportunity to observe several murder trials, watch Magistrate Judge Harnett conduct child support hearings, and watch Magistrate Judge Howze conduct criminal arraignments. Watson said watching criminal trials "brought to life” her Evidence class with Judge Lee.

Out of all of her assignments, Watson enjoyed preparing draft Orders in responses to Motions to Seal filed by people seeking to expunge arrest and conviction records. Preparing the Motion to Seal Orders allowed Watson to develop her legal writing and analysis skills, while also "helping people to right past wrongs so that they may lead more productive lives without shadows of their pasts following them around and blocking life’s opportunities.” Watson said her internship was a "wonderful learning and work experience.”
