Immigration and Human Rights Clinic Co-Director Lindsay M. Harris spoke to Newsweek and VICE News this week about what comes next for a group of migrants who recently arrived at the Mexican border.

Harris spoke to VICE writer Keegan Hamilton about how the asylum process often plays out in court. Among the issues she presented, Harris noted the enforcement of quotas can lead to rushed proceedings, which is “a concern when you’re talking about trauma survivors and life or death situations.”

In a Newsweek piece by Marie Solis, Harris reminded readers caravans like the current one, which started out with more than 1,000 people, are “not new.” She added, “But the way that we treat this caravan of refugees is really a test of our commitment to our international and domestic legal obligations.”

For more on the issue, The Washington Post published a question-and-answer piece on April 29, and USA Today explained what it means to seek asylum in the United States in an article posted Monday.
