The UDC David A. Clarke School of Law has joined with eighteen other organizations (see list below) to demand the enforcement of existing law requiring local law enforcement agencies to report deaths of those in their custody or who die during arrest.

Law enforcement agencies failing to report such deaths are violating the Death in Custody Reporting Act (DCRA) and the Arrest-Related Deaths (ARD,) which have been on the books since 2000, but are simply not enforced.

Demanding the enforcement of current law is hardly controversial, but, unfortunately – and amazingly - in this instance remains an untaken essential step in assuring police accountability nationwide.

Thus, we urge all our alumni, colleagues and friends to sign and forward this petition.

Note: for each petition signer we bring in, UDC-DCSL will receive email contact info for addresses with which to build their base for each new person who signs the petition through the organization's specific link.
