Washington, DC–The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC-DCSL) congratulates Kevin Dougherty, '88, on his election to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Seven candidates jockeyed for three open seats in Tuesday's election, and Dougherty led the field in total votes with 1.08 million, or 18.5 percent.

His election creates "a dominant 5-2 Democratic majority as the court is poised to consider landmark cases involving the death penalty, natural-gas drilling, and legislative redistricting," according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dougherty joins Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride, '79, and Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Michael Wilson, '81, as members of the highest courts of their respective states.

On Wednesday, DC's Board of Judges named Shana Frost Matini, '96, a magistrate judge.

The UDC-DCSL community congratulates the alumni on their new, prestigious positions.
