Obama Nominates Mark Cohen, '85, to Merit Systems Protection Board

The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law congratulates Mark Cohen, '85, upon his nomination by President Barack Obama to serve as a Member of the Merit Systems Protection Board, and upon appointment to be designated Vice Chairman!

According to the White House press release, Cohen is the Principal Deputy Special Counsel at the Office of Special Counsel, a position he has held since 2011.  Mr. Cohen was Executive Director of the Government Accountability Project (GAP) from 2007 to 2011 and the Director of the Food and Drug Safety Program at GAP from 2005 to 2007.  From 2003 to 2005, he was Principal at the Law Office of Mark P. Cohen and Managing Editor at Law Reporters, Inc. from 1996 to 2003.  Mr. Cohen was National Bureau Chief at LAWCAST from 1994 to 1997, and he served as Director and Chief Counsel of the Financial Crimes Unit of the National Association of Attorneys General from 1990 to 1994.  He was Senior Legal Consultant in the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 1989.  Mr. Cohen received a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh, a J.D. from the Antioch School of Law, and an L.L.M. from Georgetown University Law Center.
