UDC Law BLSA Mock Trial Team qualifies for Nationals

After a very successful regional round, one of the The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law Black Law Students Association Mock Trial Teams has qualified for the National Championship after placing second at the the regional round of the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition.

The qualifying team includes 3Ls Lakuita Bittle, Randle Wilson, Andrew Levine and Candace Paul, and their coach is James E. King, a UDC Law alum.

William 'Naji' Fenwick, the UDC BLSA Mock Trial team director, said this is the highest a UDC Law team has ever been ranked at the regional competition. UDC Law's mock trial team has advanced to nationals three out of the past five years 

"Coach James King never had any doubt that his team would advance. During practice sessions, winning was spoken of in terms of 'when' not 'if,' Fenwick said. ". After the results were announced Coach King convened his team and explained that the perseverance they demonstrated throughout the training and the grueling three days of competitions, will continue to make them successful in mock trial, but more importantly, in life."

In addition to the success in the competition, UDC Law student Kenrick Roberts was given the Board Member of the Year Award for his dedication and service as Regional Director of the Mid-Atlantic Black Law Students Association's Pre-Law Division.

The team competed against University of Maryland Law, William & Mary Law, Washington & Lee University University Law School, Georgetown, GW, U Penn and others. The National Competition takes place next month in Portland, OR.
