The University of the District of Columbia’s David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC-DCSL) ranks third in the nation - according to an article just published in the National Jurist’s January 2014 PreLaw Magazine - for the amount of clinical legal educational opportunity per full-time student. See

Since the 2008 economic downturn reduced the market for traditional law firm jobs, critics of legal education have increasingly questioned the practical value of typical academic legal education. While more law schools are adding clinical opportunities, the UDC-DCSL, D.C.’s public law school, and its predecessor, the Antioch School of Law, have led the nation for decades by ensuring that every student has multiple clinical courses. Although PreLaw Magazine places UDC-DCSL third in the nation in this particular index, UDC remains the nation’s most clinical law school by providing two seven- credit clinical courses for every student. Students in the UDC-DCSL Part-Time program have the identical clinical requirement.

In addition, with a perennial top-ten ranking in the quality of its clinics and in-state tuition rates for full-time students of $10,620 per year for D.C. residents and $21,240 for non-District residents, UDC is by far the nation’s leader in clinical legal education value per tuition dollar.

UDC-DCSL Dean Shelley Broderick said, "For prospective law students who want to be able to ‘hit the ground running,’ and who cannot afford high tuition - or who choose not to go deeply into debt - UDC’s affordable, clinic-oriented curriculum is tough to beat. For prospective students who not only want an affordable, hands-on legal education, but also want to study law in a diverse and public-interest-oriented environment, UDC David A. Clarke School of Law simply cannot be beat.”
