Will McLain

Our dear friend and colleague Will McLain died Friday, September 6th after a short period in hospice care.  He was lovingly cared for by his sons William (UDC-DCSL alum) and Pierce and by a host of friends.  A funeral will be held in Mississippi and a gathering will be held at the School of Law down the road.

I will keep you posted as plans are finalized.

Best, Shelley Broderick

I am so sorry to hear of Professor McLain's passing. During my matriculation at UDC DCSL, I knew Professor McLain to be not only an excellent professor, but a kind-hearted person who was genuinely and deeply gratified simply by a student's sincere interest in the subject matter he taught. He was always willing to take the time to explain the complexities of constitutional issues, and seemed to enjoy an occasional casual, friendly discourse when time permitted. When recalling his work in civil rights, he spoke as if the zeal that marked his work then were consuming him still, all these years later. I am blessed to have sat in his classroom, and to have once shared a warm handshake as he expressed his gratitude that I was interested in the things about which he spoke in class. With his passing, UDC DCSL has sustained a loss greater than can be calculated in monetary or academic terms. I will remember him well.
