Congrats to Marc Borbely, ’08, who just opened a new organization, the D.C. Tenant's Rights Center, which will offer affordable legal services to all D.C. tenants, workshops, legal coaching, and full-service legal representation.

The Center, which is across the street from D.C. Superior Court, is also establishing a self-help center/library for tenants with computers, forms, and a space to do legal work or advocacy. The Center has meeting space available at low cost for tenants, organizers, attorneys, tenant associations, and other tenants’ advocates.

Come to a know-your-rights workshop, in March 2013:

March 2: How Rent Control Works in D.C.

March 9: How to Sue a Landlord in Small Claims Court

March 16: The Housing Rights of a Person with a Disability

March 23: The Right to Sanitary, Safe, Well-Maintained Housing

All workshops are on Saturdays, from 10-11 a.m., at 406 5th St. NW, Suite 300, one block from the Judiciary Square metro station.

The workshops are educational in nature - no legal advice will be provided.

All are welcome. Cost per workshop: $15 per person, cash or check. Materials and beverages are included. Space is limited. Call to register: 202-681-6871.

Please contact Marc for a pdf of a flyer listing the workshops. He’d be grateful if you could make the flyer available to anyone you think might benefit, and is happy to answer any questions about the workshops or the Center. If you have suggestions for other workshops, or for other services that might be useful to tenants and tenant advocates, please send ‘em, too!
