Julie Case, 2L, Summer Intern with the ACLU of the Nation's Capital

Julie Case, 2L, completed an internship this past summer with the ACLU of the Nation's Capital.

Case’s first project was writing a chapter to a treatise that explained the legal reasoning for why the District of Columbia should be granted statehood and will be filed later this year in D.C. Court. In her breach of compact argument she discussed how Congress promised D.C. residents they would benefit economically from being the capital city since all government buildings would be located within the District. But over time many federal government agencies moved outside the District, such as the CIA and the Pentagon to Virginia. This has resulted in a breach of compact with the residents, who are now entitled to their status prior to the contract including full representation in Congress.

Case also worked with Empower D.C. to ensure low income families have access to high-quality early childhood care services in the District of Columbia. She also wrote an answer and trial brief for a case involving a charter school who relinquished their charter and are now being sued by the city to leave the building.
