This fall, 3L Nina Ego-Osuala will work as a Legal Intern in the Legal Regulation business group at Nasdaq. This paid internship opportunity with the world’s first stock exchange came through the National Bar Association – Commercial Law Section’s ‘Black Lawyers Matter’ Internship Program. The program will provide training, exposure and opportunities to diverse students facing the challenge of securing quality employment through partnerships with corporate legal departments and law firms dedicated to taking meaningful steps toward promoting diversity, equality and inclusion.

Ego-Osuala described how the ‘Black Lawyers Matter’ program will help her improve her legal skills. “I am excited about starting this internship because I know I will come out more knowledgeable in a new area of law, and it gives me the opportunity to perfect my legal writing and researching skills,” said Ego-Osuala. She added that the program can provide other UDC Law students with a more holistic picture of the types of career opportunities available to them. “UDC Law is a social justice institution, and it is important to recognize there are many forms of social justice lawyering, such as representation,” she explained, adding, “Throughout my experience, I have realized that being able to see someone who looks like me in the field of law contributes to my desire to become an attorney and (helps me to be) an inspiration to a younger generation looking for their own reason to pursue law.”

In addition to her internship, Ego-Osuala is the UDC Law Student Bar Association President and a Legal Writing Mentor for the Legal Writing Program. She also remains active in UDC’s chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) after serving as president last year. This summer, she was one of three UDC Law students who interned at the DC Housing Authority as a Policy Intern.
