Liana Montecinos, '18, now an attorney with Benach Collopy, spoke on Feb. 14, 2020, at the “In Children’s Best Interest” conference at American University Washington College of Law. Liana, herself an undocumented immigrant to the U.S. as a child, was the plenary lunch speaker, and, according to Prof. Kristina Campbell, Liana was beautifully introduced by Prof. Lindsay Harris.

Professor Tianna Gibbs also spoke at this conference a day earlier as a family law expert. Prof. Campbell writes, "I am so proud to have our law school and our alumni so well-represented at this very important conference about how to best represent immigration children in this moment of crisis."

Prof. Harris felt, "It was an inspiring and heartbreaking conference" and explained that our Immigration & Human Rights Clinic students attended in part as a way to help prepare them for their upcoming trip to Tijuana to work with Al Otro Lado at the border. She notes, "There was a lovely moment yesterday when Prof. Gibbs was introduced on her panel when the students from UDC Law cheered for her!"
