Antioch, DC and UDC Law graduates are leaders, both in the Washington area and around the nation, in the fight for civil rights, access to justice for low-income people, for justice for immigrants, for the rights of children and elders, for the protection of whistleblowers, for environmental justice and more.

National organizations led by our alumni include the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, the Government Accountability Project, the National Whistleblower Center, the American Association for Justice, the Energy Justice Network, the Coalition for Juvenile Justice, JusticeAid, United for Social Justice, the National Association Against Police Brutality, AUDIT Elections USA and more.

Jacqui Bowman, ‘79, Carlos Williams, ‘81, Jonathan Smith, ‘84, Karen Newton Cole, ‘87, Anna Gallagher, ‘87, Rochanda Hiligh-Thomas, ‘96, Mike Ewall, ‘11, Naomi Smoot, ‘13, Deb Hopkins, ‘16 and Jonathan Newton, ‘17.

Local organizations headed by our alums include DC's Neighborhood Legal Services Program, Advocates for Justice and Education, the Alexandria Public Defender, the DC Jail and Prison Advocacy Project Disability Rights DC at University Legal Services, the Legal Aid Society of Roanoke County, VA, and the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, among others.

And, as you can see from the list below, our alumni lead or play leading roles in local legal service, public defender and other justice-focused organizations nationwide.

While hundreds of our alumni fight for justice every day in the context of private law practice, we salute those among us who have chosen the often less remunerative non-profit path.

Look for forthcoming articles similarly listing the alums fighting the good fight while at work for national, state and local governments and also one featuring those “in the trenches,” performing the day-in/day-out work for legal services and defender organizations.
