About the Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program

Experience tells us that summer jobs are among the most effective training grounds for building student expertise and commitment, make valuable professional contacts, and provide vitally needed legal services - often to individuals who otherwise could not afford a lawyer. Unfortunately, the very organizations and agencies most engaged in this type of work, and most in need of student support, often cannot afford to pay students for their work. To address this operational paradox, several years ago, our School of Law began to raise funds from law firms, friends and alumni to provide Summer Public Interest Fellowships. Based on the success of this experience, the School of Law now supports Fellowships for all qualifying first year students - and for as many second year students as possible. Students receiving the Fellowships work full-time, for a minimum of ten weeks, supervised by an attorney, in support of a public interest, governmental or judicial office. The School of Law provides stipends to Fellows in the amount of $3,000.

Your donation or auction purchase does QUADRUPLE duty:

  1. supporting the individual student,
  2. helping the School of Law as a whole,
  3. providing support for the host organization or agency, AND
  4. helping the individual clients or public interest cause!

If you would like to donate an item for the auction, please contact Joe Libertelli at or (202) 274-7338. If you would like to make a secure, tax-deductible on-line donation to the Summer Fellowship Program, please click here.

To bid remotely, you have two options:

  1. email your bid to Joe Libertelli, Joe will do his best to get you your item - and at the lowest possible price.
  2. participate in a CONFERENCE CALL from 7:30 to 8:30 pm this Thursday, March 25. A law student (or two) will be on the call at the Auction to forward your bids to the Auctioneer. Call 1-219-509-8020 and the code is 4377037.
