The Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) sponsored an alumni panel on careers in education law featuring Sabrina Bazemore '95, Kim Jones '97, and Brian Gruber '97. They also hosted Robin Robinson, senior attorney with the US Environmental Protection Agency. The Immigration and Human Rights Clinic successfully represented a client from Mexico in removal proceedings at the Arlington Immigration Court. Read More.

The UDC-DCSL Community Development Clinic, working with the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP), Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and the Center for Community Change, helped the tenants of Highland Dwellings reach a settlement with the DC Housing Authority (DCHA). The Community Development Clinic provided tenant support throughout the process. Read More.

Associate Dean of Students Annamaria Steward, a member of the D.C. Bar's Leadership Development Committee (LDC), is helping to launch the D.C. Bar Leadership Academy in March 2013, the official goal of which is "to identify, inspire, and educate D.C. Bar members to be leaders of the Bar and to encourage them to use their leadership skills in professional settings, local bar associations, and community organizations.” Read More. |
Professor Joseph Tulman of the Juvenile and Special Education Law Clinic conducted a training on the use of special education advocacy to extricate children from the delinquency system. The Took Crowell Institute also received grants from the Meyer Foundation and the Prince Charitable Trusts to reverse the school-to-prison pipeline in D.C. Clinical Instructor Lisa Geis wrote and filed a motion to dismiss a truancy case that resulted in the prosecutor's withdrawing the petition. Read More.

Gray litigates civil commitment cases and guardianship matters. The Ruff Fellowships were created to provide the District of Columbia with more legal help and to promote public interest legal work.
