OCPD Panel on Alternative Legal Careers

On April 4, 2013, the Office of Career and Professional Development sponsored a presentation on alternative legal careers. The talk was moderated by Prof. John Terzano, who told the audience if you want to engage the law through litigation and public policy, you should be connected to the issues and you should strive to innovate. Brittany Kolonay, Emerging Technologies Law Librarian at the Mason Law Library at UDC-DCSL; talked about how law librarianship is becoming more digitally-oriented, with librarians needing to know how to do online searches and the intricacies of copyright law. Michael Liszewski '11, Policy Director at Americans for Safe Access; said that in order to change medical marijuana laws he has had to become well-versed in state, and in some cases, municipal law. LaRuby May '06, Executive Director of Vision of Victory Community Development Corporation, spoke about her working in the nonprofit sector, her work on human capital and economic development, and working for D.C. Coucilmember Marion Barry (Ward 8).
