Professor John Brittain published an editorial in The New York Times Room for Debate section arguing Asian-Americans face a disadvantage in being admitted to highly selective colleges due to preferences given to legacy admissions. The article was co-authored with Richard Kahlenberg, a senior fellow at the Century Foundation.
Prof. Brittain and Richard Kahlenberg write, "The widely documented disadvantage that Asian-Americans face in college
admissions is in some significant measure a result of a broader type of
discrimination based on legacy status. Highly selective colleges provide
a significant preference in admissions to the children of alumni – a
practice that advantages the already advantaged. And among the losers,
along with African-American and Latino students, are Asian-American applicants."
