Tom Devine, Government Accountability Project Legal Director and '80 alum, is quoted in The Washington Post on a new internal Pentagon report showing the Department of Defense has failed to protect whistleblowers from reprisal. Officials in the DOD’s Office of Inspector General are accused of "persistent sloppiness and a systematic disregard for Pentagon rules meant to protect those who report fraud, abuses, and the waste of taxpayer funds.”

Tom Devine says, "This report helps to confirm what everyone knew in practice - that the IG has not respected the law's mandate." Tom Devine also said the IG's office - created in part as a refuge of last resort for those whose complains of wrongdoing are ignored by others - has often been a "Trojan horse," whose agents are
hatchetmen for for agency managers" looking for the smallest infraction to punish their whistleblowers.
