On March 26, 2012 UDC-DCSL held a candlelight vigil for Trayvon Martin, a 17-year old unarmed African-American male who was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a community watch volunteer in Florida. Over 60 UDC-DCSL students attended the vigil.

Barbara Mack, 3L and UDC BLSA Chapter President, and James King, 3L and UDC SBA President, both gave introductions. Dean Broderick, Professor Kemit Mawakana and Professor John Brittain said a few words about Trayvon Martin. Pat Henry, 1L, read his poem titled "Justice Peace Love & Truth." Brian Lee, 2L and MABLSA Attorney General, said a prayer for Trayvon Martin and Paula Gibbs, 1L and UDC 1L Senator, led the group in singing, "Lift Ev'ry Voice & Sing."
