Maryland Delegate Tiffany T. Alston (D-Prince George's), '02, was quoted in The Baltimore Sun on legalizing medial marijuana in Maryland. There is little chance that medical marijuana will become law in Maryland since a spokeswoman for Gov. Martin O'Malley told The Baltimore Sun that he would likely veto such a bill out of concern that state workers could face federal prosecution for facilitating drug use.
At a recent hearing, Tiffany Alston grilled Joshua M. Sharfstein (Gov. O'Malley's health secretary) on why the Governor feels threatened by federal law on marijuana.
"All of a sudden we want to get in line with what the federal government says?" she asked. "Can you offer us any enlightenment on that?"
