Sakinda Skinner, 3L, worked as a Law Clerk this past summer at the Annapolis Office of the Public Defender. As a Law Clerk she assisted attorneys with various serious felony cases ranging from Violation of Probation to Attempted First Degree Murder.
Skinner worked on an attempted first degree murder case where she investigated the crime scene, interviewed her client and key witnesses, and attended negotiating meetings with the Assistant State’s Attorney. Skinner also worked on a case involving an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a sex abuse case, and a probation violation case.
Overall Skinner’s experience in the Annapolis Office of the Public Defender was very positive. "My law clerk experience at the Annapolis Office of the Public Defender (Annapolis OPD) was invaluable.I improved my ability to spot complex legal issues, gained a deeper understanding of the criminal defense process, and strengthened my oral advocacy skills.Importantly, I learned how to separate my personal feelings about my older brother's incarceration from how I advocated and represented client's at the OPD,” said Skinner.
