C-SPAN filmed and broadcast a presentation by Kevin Martin, Executive Director of Peace Action, at the 10th Annual Human Rights on the Hill course. UDC-DCSL hosted the 10th Annual Human Rights on the Hill course, June 27 - July 2, 2011, for students, activists, and policymakers to learn about the state of human rights in the U.S. and abroad.
In his presentation, Kevin Martin discussed U.S. foreign policy and cutting defense spending to address the national debt. Martin also discussed the use of military power since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2011, the U.S. nuclear arsenal, and the U.S. education system and media. The 10th Annual Human Rights on the Hill course was organized by Joshua Cooper, Director of the Four Freedoms Forum, Professor of Political Science at the University of Hawaii, and founder of the University of Hawaii Human Rights Law Center. The course included presentations from the U.S. State Department, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict.
