With the help of attorneys Michael Kohn, '85, and former Antioch School of Law Clinic Supervisor Stephen Kohn, both at the National Whistleblowers Center, Bunnatine "Bunny" Greenhouse was awarded a $970,000 settlement for being unfairly demoted at the Army Corps of Engineers for speaking publicly about abuse in military contracting.
In 2005 Greenhouse testified before Congress that a multi-billion dollar, no-bid contract to Halliburton was the worst case of government abuse she had ever witnessed in her 20-year career. When she was demoted two months later for "poor performance," she sought the legal assistance of the National Whistleblowers Center.
Michael Kohn, ’85 alum and President at the National Whistleblowers Center, was Greenhouse's attorney in the case. Stephen Kohn is the Executive Director of the National Whistleblowers Center, and is a former Adjunct Professor and Clinical Supervisor at the Antioch School of Law (supervising a legal clinic on whistleblower protections from 1984 to 1988).
Both Michael Kohn and Stephen Kohn were interviewed on Democracy Now! talking about the importance of the settlement and the need for stronger federal whistleblower protections. Watch the full interview below.
