Alia Cambel, a rising 3L, and Mohammad Mahmoudi, a rising 2L, are completing internships with the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). ADC is a nonprofit civil rights and civil liberties organization working to defend the rights of people of Arab descent and promote their unique cultural heritage. Additionally, ADC is the largest grassroots Arab-American organization in the United States.
Interns at ADC work independently on legal cases involving discrimination, immigration, employment, family disputes, and legislation. Additionally, Alia Cambel had the opportunity to visit the Federal Election Commission, meet Representative John Conyers (D-MI) at the Democratic National Committee’s Headquarters, and be featured on the Montgomery Municipal Cable Channel show, "The Edge” with Garland Nixon.

Alia Cambel and Mohammad Mahmoudi also helped plan this year’s ADC National Convention titled, "Defining Our Role in a Changing World,” which offered presentations on discrimination and bias against Arab Americans, U.S. Middle East policy, and the Arab Spring.  During the convention interns met with Congressmen, Ambassadors, Dignitaries, acclaimed authors, and many other public figures.

Interning with ADC has been such a positive experience that when asked about her future Cambel says, "I hope to continue my relationship with ADC even after this amazing summer internship.”
