In this article, published by the Huffington Post, Brec Cooke, '11, a former newspaperman himself, takes a close look at the NY Times and the Washington Post's editorial positions in opposition to Republican Party Freedom of Information Act "fishing expeditions" into the affairs of liberal public university professors.  Cooke's conclusion is that while the intent may have been to chill speech, FOIA was not, in fact, abused and the newspapers lost an excellent opportunity to support the federal public disclosure act that they themselves rely upon so regularly.
