The ACLU and the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law held a panel discussion today on Metro's controversial bag inspections policy. Some of the speakers included, Andrew Taslitz (Howard Law), Mike German (ACLU), David Alpert (RAC DC Vice-Chair), Jim Harper (CATO Institute), and James Wedick (FBI, retired). Many of the speakers discussed how random bag searches are an ineffective use of resources and that Metro did not take the time to understand passenger's privacy concerns. The ACLU also filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive more information about the program, and is currently looking to interview passengers who have had bag searches on the Metro.
