On Saturday March 27, 2010, UDC-DCSL students Sharonda Jackson and Molly Sanders teamed with neighboring Howard Law students to ensure the success of AARP's Estate Planning and Federal Healthcare Reform Workshop held at the Hillandale Baptist Church in Adelphi, Maryland.
The workshop was led by Mr. Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq. who is the Senior State Director for AARP Maryland. Followed by a 30-45 minute workshop on basic estate planning concepts and a short primer on the new federal healthcare reform law, students worked with attendees to complete intake forms and basic estate planning documents, including simple wills, health directives and financial powers of attorney.
Reflecting upon the event, both students shared that the experience was extremely rewarding in that they were able to help inform citizens about the recent changes in the law and assisted them in making financial preparations that benefit their families.
