In a recent survey, personal injury resource firm Enjuris ranked the 203 ABA-approved law schools by female J.D. enrollment. UDC Law came in fourth for 2018 with 63.8% of students identifying as women.

Where Women Go to Law School also noted that across the U.S., “female enrollment in law schools has outpaced male enrollment,” with 51.3% of all J.D. students in the U.S. identifying as women. That number increased slightly between 2016 and 2017, from 50.09% to 51.3%.

Among D.C. schools, neighboring school Howard University School of Law has the highest female enrollment overall (69.4%), and American University Washington College of Law lands at fifth, directly behind UDC Law, with 63.3% of J.D. students identifying as women.

The numbers look promising, but there is still much ground to be gained in closing the gender gap in the legal industry. “While more women are enrolling in law school,” says Enjuris, “they are still underrepresented in the industry – especially in leadership positions.”

Enjuris specializes in helping accident victims find personal injury attorneys, support organizations, and other post-accident resources. The firm’s editors are active in a variety of outlets, including Above the Law, the American Bar Association, U.S. News & World Report, and The Huffington Post.
