Washington, DC—Shelley Broderick, Dean of the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, was on NewsChannel 8's 'News Talk with Bruce DePuyt' to discuss the results of the 2016 Presidential Election, and the wave of discrimination and acts of hate in the wake of the election of Donald Trump.
"I think it's a really confusing time for a lot of people because of all the rhetoric prior to the election, particularly from the Trump side," Broderick said. "Comments about building a wall, sending people home and keeping people out, all of those comments that sometimes appeared to be rather off the cuff by Trump are really being felt by the millions and millions of people here in the States that come from other places. So, it's scary."
Racist graffiti, violent attacks, and use of racist, homophobic, sexist and other discriminatory and offensive language and slurs are all reportedly increased over the past week.
"I don't recall an election before where it was scary," Broderick said. "I've actually learned about our students crying and being horribly upset."
