Aviva Kempner and Roland Martin

Filmmaker Aviva Kempner, '76's most recent film "Rosenwald" was inspired by a talk Julian Bond gave 12 years ago.   In that talk, Bond described the Sears and Roebuck magnate Julius Rosenwald's donation of millions of dollars in a collaboration with Booker T. Washington to create more than 5,000 schools for black students throughout the south.  In the ensuing years, Bond was Kempner's primary consultant and was a major booster and promoter of the film, which is opening now in cities across the Eastern US.

In the interview, Kempner expresses Julian Bond's widow Pamela's request that on Saturday, August 22, at 4 pm, Eastern Standard Time, that supporters throw flowers into a body of water near them in memory of Bond - and in commitment to his ideals - and then post photos and/or video on social media under the hashtag of #HonorJulianBond.
