Congratulations to Professor John Brittain on his most recent national award this fall recognizing his professional achievements and service on behalf of civil rights.
On December 8, 2014, Prof. Brittain will be celebrated with presentation of the Edwin D. Wolf Award by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The award honors outstanding service and commitment to civil rights of a past or present staff member of the Lawyers’ Committee, national office, or one of the independent Local Committees. The award is named in honor of Edwin D. Wolf who overcame a personal battle with cancer to mobilize the local bar and establish the Public Interest Law Center in Philadelphia, where he served as counsel from 1968 until his death in 1976.
In September 2014, Prof. Brittain was selected by the National Lawyers Guild for the Ernest Goodman Award, honoring a Guild lawyer who engages in legal struggle against financial, political or social odds to obtain justice on behalf of those who are poor, powerless or persecuted (or a combination of these). Ernest Goodman was a founding member of the National Lawyers Guild and served as its president in the 1960s.
