Congratulations are in order for several UDC-DCSL competitors…if you see these students, please take the time to congratulate them on their accomplishments and thank them for doing such an amazing job of representing the diverse and talented students who attend UDC-DCSL.

Paris Anderson (2L) and Kylie Jones (2L), left, competed in their first competitive Moot Court competition this weekend. Arguing issues surrounding Ineffective Assistance of Counsel, Constitutional and Criminal Law, Paris and Kylie submitted a brief and argued orally against 17 other teams in the region.  Paris and Kylie advanced through the rounds, placing fourth in the Region in their very first Moot Court Competition!

LaToia Williams-Dyson (3L), Jonathan Webb (3L), Sondra Jones (3L) and Kevin Regan (3L), (photo above) competed
in the Mock Trial Competition this weekend. Headed by their coach, Deputy Director of the DC Public Defender Service, Rudy Acree, the Mock Trial team argued in trials surrounding fourth and fifth amendment issues and criminal charges of guns, drugs, and assault. The Mock Trial team advanced through the rounds against 17 other teams to place 3rd in the Region! They also earned a spot to compete Nationally at the National Black Law Students Association Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition in March!! Conquering teams representing Washington & Lee University School of Law, Howard University School of Law, the University of Virginia School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center, the Mock Trial Team will be one of only three teams (both other teams representing Washington & Lee University) representing the Mid Atlantic Region of the country at the National Competition.

There were 2 separate teams, coached by Professor Snow.Jason and Bob made it into the semi finals. Jenn and Clayton also performed very well but barely missed proceeding to the semi finals. Jason and Bob began the semis by being paired against the number one seed and last year's regional champion and successfully sent them home early! The finals came down to Campbell University, UNC, (the host), and UDC-DCSL. This year's focus was on First Amendment in which Bob and Jason finished in Third place!

CONGRATULATIONS Bob, Jason, Professor Snow, Jenn and Clayton!!  WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!!
