Aida Vindell, '12, an Associate Attorney at Pishevar & Associates, P.C., was cited by Catholic Charities for her pro bono work helping a woman to obtain guardianship of her younger cousin who had been abused, abandoned and neglected by both his mother and father in their home country of Honduras.
According to Catholic Charities, "The client now lives with a loving family and attends high school. The child had long been denied access to school and forced to work over 40 hours a week on a farm. Now, the minor's favorite subject is Math and hopes to one day become a nurse. A Prince George's County Judge also granted an order for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status allowing the minor to apply for SIJS. At the child's master hearing, the child's case was administratively closed and he is no longer in deportation proceedings. The child awaits his SIJS approval and is looking forward to living a happy life free of abuse and neglect."
