Prof. John Brittain spoke at the Magnet Schools of America (MSA) 2013 Policy Training Conference, a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities for magnet school leaders. Prof. Brittain said, "I am in favor of magnet schools as a proven
effective educational remedy for raising achievement and promoting racial and
ethnic diversity." Prof. Brittain added, "There is a contradiction between the administration's support of the advantages of school integration and the amount of funding that is provided to implement such policies. Federal support for school integration is not yet reflected in the requirements and point systems in many key competitive federal grant programs."
