Nina Shore '84, Chief Attorney at Frederick Legal Aid Bureau, Featured in the Frederick News-Post

Nina Shore '84, the chief attorney at the Frederick County bureau of Maryland Legal Aid, was featured recently in The Frederick News-Post.

From The Frederick News-Post: "All of her jobs since college, including the work in Kansas and South Dakota, have been with a bureau of Legal Aid.

"I felt that was the best way to advance human rights -- to work with Legal Aid," Shore said. "We look at basic, fundamental human rights."

Attorneys at the Frederick Legal Aid Bureau handle cases that ensure freedom from abuse and neglect, and the right to housing, living wages, government programs and high-quality health care for everyone, Shore said.

The Legal Aid Bureau served 1,871 people in Frederick County in 2011, and an additional 69,305 people statewide.

Shore started work at the Frederick office 25 years ago and now primarily handles CINA, or Child In Need of Assistance, cases. CINA attorneys represent and are advocates for children in cases involving abuse or neglect.

"Children are the most vulnerable people in our society," Shore said. "I am very interested in empowering people, whether it's a child, the elderly or the disabled. I feel strongly about giving people a voice.""
