Congratulations to Nichole Opkins '03 who will become the new Advisory
Neighborhood Commissioner in the single member district of 6B06 on
Capitol Hill. She won 54% of the vote in a 3-way race. Opkins says, "It was a long, hard fought
battle, but I'm so excited to serve my community!"
Opkins' campaign platform included strong neighborhood
watches, positive educational programs and events for neighborhood
residents, and useful and easy-to-perform community volunteer efforts.
Opkins
is an independent legal consultant. Her employment history includes the
Association of Corporate Counsel, DC Office of Bar Counsel, and the DC
Superior Court. She is on the planning committee for the MOTH Family
Fest and regularly volunteers with the 13th Street Community Park &
Garden Club.
She is the daughter of a U.S. Marshall,
granddaughter of a Metropolitan Police Lieutenant, and niece of several
MPD and Capitol Police Sergeants.
She is also a mother, wife, and native Washingtonian. She and her
family have lived on the 500 block of 14th Street SE since 2007. She is
an avid Redskins and Nationals fan, and in her spare time enjoys yoga,
cooking, and being outdoors with her family.
