Annamaria Steward

Annamaria Steward became Associate Dean of Students at UDC-DCSL in 2008. She previously practiced catastrophic medical malpractice and personal injury law at Jack H. Olender & Associates, P.C. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for the Honorable Annice M. Wagner, then Chief Judge of the D.C. Court of Appeals.
Dean Steward has been very active in the legal community. She currently serves as Treasurer-Elect of the Bar Association of D.C. (BADC), Secretary of the Washington Bar Association Legal Fund, Assistant Secretary of the National Bar Association, and a member of the D.C. Bar Publications Committee. She has also served as Secretary of the D.C. Bar, the mandatory bar association of D.C., Secretary of the Washington Bar Association, the predominately African-American bar association of D.C., and a member of the Maryland State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section's Nominating Committee. As Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the BADC, she held nearly forty events focused on young lawyer education and community service and created a radio law clinic. Building on the success of the radio law clinic, Dean Steward created and hosts a weekly cable television show entitled "D.C. Law... Today", which highlights leaders of the D.C. legal profession and their contributions to the legal and civic communities.
Dean Steward was awarded the BADC's Young Lawyer of the Year award in 2006, was a nominee for the ABA Young Lawyers Division's 2007 National Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year award, and is one of twenty-two young lawyers selected from a nation-wide pool to be a member of the ABA's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section's 2007-2008 Leadership Academy. In recognition of her "demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of her community and the highest principles of the legal profession," Dean Steward has also been selected to be a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
