The 2012 Law Review Symposium is titled, Smartphones and the Fourth Amendment: "The Future of Privacy in Our Hands.” The event will focus on the how Fourth Amendment expectations of privacy have been affected by innovations in technology such as the Smartphone, the Internet and GPS tracking, especially in light of the recent Supreme Court decision in United States v. Jones.

Introduction to the Symposium (10:30 - 10:45am)

Panel 1: "Smartphones and the 4th Amendment" (10:45am - 12:00pm)
  • Moderator: Professor Andrew Ferguson
  • Dr. Saby Ghoshray - President, Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Professor Margaret Lawton - Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Charleston Law School

Lunch (12:00 - 12:40pm)

Keynote Speaker - Steve Leckar (12:40 - 1:10pm)

  • Mr. Leckar argued the landmark 4th Amendment case United States v. Jones, before the United States Supreme Court in 2011.

Introduction of the (2012-2013) Editorial Board (1:10 - 1:15pm)

Panel 2: "US v. Jones: What Jones Means to the Future of the 4th Amendment" (1:30 - 3:15pm)
