Professional & Alumni Mentor Program

Past Mentors Panel

More than 60 School of Law students and attorneys met during the School of Law's annual Professional & Alumni Mentor Program held its Kick-off Reception on September 28, 2005. Through the Mentor Program, the School of Law matches incoming students with an alumnus/a or non-alumni attorney experienced in areas of the law of particular interest to the student. We are always looking for experienced attorneys to serve as mentors to our students and encourage any interested professionals to contact Dena Bauman at dbaumanudc.edu or (202) 274-5722.

Are you interested in being a mentor to a first-year law student during the coming school year?
Please read this invitation letter from Dena Bauman and contact us by August 11.

MENTOR EXPECTATIONS:

We ask mentors to meet with students "face to face" at least twice over the school year. We are hoping you will be able to provide support as they begin law school and insight into their areas of legal career interest. We're hoping you'll find opportunities to invite your "mentee" to professional networking events, bar activities and casual social activities, if that is mutually desired.

MENTOR REQUIREMENTS:

We prefer mentors who have been members of the bar for a minimum of five years or who have the equivalent in law-related experience. However, if you are interested in mentoring but do not quite "qualify," please contact us - we may well need your help!

If you know of other attorneys who might be interested in working with out students, they too are welcome. Feel free to pass this information along to them.

STUDENT INTERESTS:

As you can imagine, we have a pretty wide range of interests from our - as usual - incredibly diverse group of students.

PROVIDING YOUR INFORMATION:

If you would like to serve as a mentor, please provide either a resume or a brief description of your career, your work and your related interests so we can match you with someone keenly interested in what you've done! Information can be e-mailed to dbaumanudc.edu or faxed to (202) 274-5583 (Attn: Dena Bauman).
