Rauh Lecture

Marian Wright Edelman Delivers 11th Annual Joseph L. Rauh, Jr. Lecture

Marian Wright Edelman On April 12, 2003, Marian Wright Edelman, Founder and Executive Director of the Children’s Legal Defense Fund, delivered the 11th Annual Joseph L. Rauh, Jr. Lecture in a packed Window Lounge Room at the School of Law. Michael Rauh, Chair of the DC School of Law Foundation, partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips law firm and son of the late civil rights attorney Joe Rauh, welcomed the crowd. Ms. Edelman was then introduced by Wade Henderson, Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights who also serves as the UDC-DCSL Joe Rauh Professor of Public Interest Law. In her wide-ranging talk, Ms. Edelman not only decried a range of Bush administration policies adversely affecting children — including the under-funded mandate of “No Child Left Behind” — but also launched a broadside against what she viewed as an illegal war in Iraq and one based on false premises and intentionally deceptive "intelligence."
