First Year Application Checklist

Checklist for First Year J.D. Applicants

Required Application Materials Priority Deadline
__ A completed Application for Admission, including a personal statement and response to the essay question (submitted through LSAC) March 15
__ A non-refundable application fee of $35 or an authorized fee waiver. The application fee is waived for applicants who apply on-line through LSAC by February 15. The application fee is non-refundable.
March 15
__ A current LSAT score (submitted through LSAC Credential Assembly Service) March 15*
__ Two recommendation letters, including one academic or employer recommendation (submitted through LSAC Credential Assembly Service) March 15*
__ A transcript of all courses attempted at each college and graduate school attended (submitted through LSAC Credential Assembly Service) March 15*
__ A completed Declaration of Residency form (D.C. residents only) March 15

*Applications are not reviewed until all required materials have been received. Applicants should complete their applications no later than June 30th.

Required Financial Aid Materials** Deadline
__ Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) submitted to federal processor (School Code B08083)
March 31
(Late Admits: Within 2 weeks of acceptance)
__ UDC-DCSL Financial Aid Application submitted to UDC-DCSL (all financial aid applicants)
__ Title IV Release for Non-Institutional Charges Form submitted to UDC-DCSL (all financial aid applicants)

Optional Financial Aid Materials** Deadline
__ Graduate PLUS Loan Application online at (only if you are interested in a Grad PLUS Loan) Anytime after completing the FAFSA
__ Need-Based Scholarship Application submitted to UDC-DCSL (only if you can demonstrate financial need) June 30
__ No application is required for Incoming Merit Scholarships or Legal Scholar Awards; awards are based on the information in the application for admission.
